What to put on top of a VTF subwoofer?

Just curious to know what do you guys put on the top of your VTF-2/VTF-3 subwoofer other than a plant or a birdcage with parakeet if the bird likes to rumble?

I heard some use a small table to cover it but I prefer putting something on top of it.

It will be great if you guys can post pictures of the top of your sub.

I'm trying to think of something to put so the sub will not be noticed when the show starts.

Mine is placed on the back of the sofa, but it can be easily noticed if you stand on its back.

I have an end table that just fits over an STF-2.

Right now, I have books on mine. I have thought about getting a nice butcher's cutting board made to put on top of it as well.

Searching the web for subwoofer decoration, I found the following link showing off some subwoofer decoration but the interesting part is the expert there seems to know about speaker design and familiar with HSU early subwoofers.

cschang, books is not a bad idea.
Dudley, end table could be a also good idea to put a lamp on top of it.

I or should I say the wife has a lamp and some nick nacks on the Vtf-2.Nothing on the Stf-3.

Unless I can't think of something to put on top nicely, other good choices left are:

1. Hide it!
If I could do this way, this will be best since friends will be looking where bass comes from and won't have clue til they find where it is hidden.

Unfountunately I have nothing on top of mine, it is far too goodlooking to hide.

In the past I had placed a telephone and some sandbags on top of my old HRS10V. I did find that the rubber shelf lining helps to protect the top of the sub.

Yes, I agree. It is goodlooking. I wish I had one which has HSU blue logo lid on like some do.

In contrast, to hide it with a custom built cabinet (I'm working on this) so I can keep the audience from knowing where the bass comes from. This will produce a very nice effect of surprise. So far, I haven't seen pictures of how people hide their sub. I'm glad if some of you can post them.

Try putting a glass of water on your subwoofer!

Our subwoofers have very intricate and extensive internal bracing, with very little cabinet flex and coloration. You should have no problems keeping small things on top of the subwoofer. However, make sure that the metal spiked feet have a soft surface beneath them, to avoid unwanted buzzing of the feet.

I placed a Huge candle on top. It's about 15 inches in diameter and shaped like a ball. It works well to offset the "squared" look of the subwoofer.

Got a phone and a couple of books on mine. It doubles as a coffee table. Sure wouldn't put coffee on her though. Very, Very nice sub.

For a while, I substituted the -3R for the base unit of my gun cabinet, which was in a small wall offset. Then I moved it to a far corner. There was a large ceramic pot holding an artificial palm in that corner, and I slipped the -3R in under it. Then I swapped the gun cabinet and the -3R and junked the potted palm, leaving the -3R in the small wall offset. I noticed yesterday that my wife has placed a large woven-grass basket with artificial fruit on top of the -3R.

I think you can put most anything on top.

I gave up the cabinet project to hide it. I came up with other idea which requires less work.

Since It was so Big and Powerful looking, I took one of my wife's Stuff animal (Tigger) and put him on it. The wife thought it was cute and I thought so as well....Anyways, if you watched Winnie the Pooh when you were a kid, you would know that "Tiggers love ta bounce"............What better way to make him feel Bouncie but on a VTF-3

Seriously I do have a Tigger on my VTF-3

Hi Peter,

It may be probably a premature question since the HO series are still prototypes? I would like to know if one could stack the new VTF-2 HO on top of the VTF-2 MK2? The same goes for the VTF-3 model.

Since the VTF-2 MK2 is downfiring and the new VTF HO series is sidefiring and does not have spike, I would think it is logical to put the sidefiring one on top. One could use either both of them at same time or independently whichever he likes when needed.

Is there any disadvantage to operate the top sidefiring sub at a height higher than putting it on the floor?
