VTF-15H High Level Input Question

My first post comes from that of excitement. I expect delivery of my new VTF-15H tomorrow and cannot wait.

My question, I currently have a Samsung HTIB system with a dedicated sub out channel with a single +/- speaker wire connection. Safe to assume I'm using the high level input on the sub as my connection point.

Is it true that I only need to connect to the left or right side of the sub input to get full performance out of the sub?

Also, any other issues that might arise from my connection method? I'm open to advice that anyone can offer.

For future reference I have a Marantz SR6005 that will soon replace the HTIB receiver. Got a great deal from my uncle but need to wait about 2 weeks to take ownership. I will not be able to wait 2 weeks to connect this sub.

Hi Stikky,

Welcome to the Hsu family! Yes you would use either the left or right high level input on the VTF-15H. You do not need to connect to both. One thing to note is that HITB receivers generally have a fixed crossover between the speakers and sub and usually the crossover is set quite high. You will probably want to keep the subwoofer up front near your speakers because it will be a bit more localizable with a higher crossover setting. When you get the Marantz receiver, you can use a single RCA cable from the subwoofer pre-out to the either the left or right low level input on the sub. Were you planning on using the same speakers from your HTIB?

Sincerely,
Kevin

Hi Kevin,
Thank you for the good info. Yes for now I plan to use the htib speakers for a short while. I had planned to purchase the hybrid 15 5.1 package but couldnt afford it all at once. Eventually the MK2 center and surrounds will be in place. Do you think the Marantz receiver will be adequate power for them?

Stikky,

No problem! One thing you should probably check is the frequency response of your speakers. Once you get the Marantz you will need to set the crossover for your speakers, or have audyssey try to do it for you. If they are small satellites, it's a good probability that they will require a higher crossover setting at 120 Hz or above. You can also use our Hsu BAS Test CD test tones, along with a sound level meter, to determine where they roll off.

The HB-1 Mk2s and HC-1 Mk2s should work well with the Marantz SR6005. If you do end up getting the HB-1 Mk2 and HC-1 Mk2, a good crossover to select would be 80 Hz.

Sincerely,
Kevin

The HB-1's and HC-1 are awesome speakers. I am running an all HSU 5.1 system with a 15H and I am very, very happy with it.
