HB-1 HK2 Horn book shelf equal to towers?
I have a 15h and am really liking the Hsu brand. I have a pair of 5 year old Jamo tower speakers that arent really that great. Im wondering if these bookshelf speakers would be comparable to a set of tower speakers? i also want to get the HC1 center as well.

Hi Stegen,
What model Jamo towers do you have? The HB-1 MK2 is a nice speaker. It may not play quite as deep as most tower speakers, but deep bass extension is not required since you already have a nice true subwoofer to reproduce the lowest frequencies. So it is conceivable that a pair of bookshelf speakers + true subwoofer may be preferred to a pair of tower speakers + true subwoofer, depending on the design of the speakers and listening preferences. Sincerely,

Stegen,
I believe there is a 30 day return policy if you decide you don't like them. I was somewhat in the same boat as you.. only my towers were older JBL's - model 240ti. (google them - pretty awesome build) Awesome speakers for their day, and still hold there own against many. I too purchased a 15h.. which lead me to the HB1's and a HC1. (both Mk2's) Pete is right.. with the 15h to cover the lower frequencies.. I believe these bookshelf's will stand up to nearly anything you put them up against. I'm now wondering what I should do with the 240ti's as I haven't used them since I recieved the HSU speakers. With the 30 day return policy - I can't see how you could go wrong to give them a try! Good Luck! |

Stegen,
Hi. Quick answer is no, they aren't comparable to your 5 year old Jamo towers. I think the Hsu's would outperform those Jamos . In all fairness, I have never heard your speakers ( let alone in your room ) but I went from Polk Monitor 70's to a full Hsu set . Kinda funny when wifey saw the 'new' speakers and said "you're going from that to THAT??"... ![]() The Hsu's are very accurate. You will hear exactly what was recorded, with no added 'flavor' to the sound. Do not be deceived by their size. They are very capable. I even took a pair of the HB-1's on vacation , and they hold their own with music, even without a sub. That was running off an Onkyo mini bookshelf system putting out maybe 30 watts. With a sub, or 2, in my case (not that my 12 by 14 room really NEEDED two ![]() hope it helps, Joe p.s. perhaps if you gave a location, another HSU owner would give an audition? I certainly would, if you're anywhere near eastern Tennessee. ![]() |

I think towers are leftover from another time! With great subwoofers availables, no need for large main speakers anymore. Four 6 inches drivers won't produce any lower frequencies than a single one.
That said, if you think the HB-1 may be too limited in headroom, try a pair of HC-1 placed upright instead! |
