What will I gain going from a VTF2.4 to s VTF15h?

I have an VTF2 MK4, and I love it, but I may want more (upgradeitis?).

Primary listening area is 11x15x9, but one side is fully open leading into the dining room (open area is like an L), and the other side is partially open. I mainly watch movies and tv, maybe 10% music.

I'm thinking of selling it and buying a VTF15H.I understand I have a less than ideal listening situation (open space), and due to appearance only two places to place the sub (it's not in its optimal position, crawl testing). I can't put two subs, have to stick to one.

When I watch a movie with a lot of LFE, I could hear the bass and feel the floor vibrating. If there is an explosion I hear the boom loudly. Would something bigger/better, like a VTF15, provide more of a boom during explosions (due to it having more overhead and digging deeper in frequency)?

My listening area is small, and the VTF2.4 is only at like 10% of the volume on the knob. Or due to my sub-optimal listening conditions would it be a waste of money (a lot of money for a small gain?)

Hi subpressure,

There is a very noticeable difference between the VTF-2 MK4 and the VTF-15H. The VTF-15H will have more available headroom across the board, so for movies you can expect more mid bass boom/flutter in pant legs/gut and for the deeper bass you can expect more wall rattling bass.


I would also recommend doing a mock up of the VTF-15H's dimensions, most people don't realize how large it is by looking at the specs.
We recommend placing the sub volume knob to roughly 9 o'clock.

I'll measure out the VTF-15H, and see how it'll look.

One more question, do you recommend putting the volume at 9 o'clock regardless of Auddessey?

When I ran Auddessey (VTF2.4) it calibrated it to 75dB, but the volume knob is probably closer to 8 than 9... ( I'm also running it 3dB hot)

The volume knob closer to 8 is fine if Audyssey sets the subwoofer channel to 0 +/- 3 dB.
