2005 CES Report from Spottie Editor John Williams

Hello Hsuphiles,

When you have a few minutes, please read this 2005 CES Report from Home Theater Spot editor John Williams. This is one of the best writeups I have seen on the show, if not the best. It's really that good!

John also had some very kind things to say about Dr. Hsu, and our new products. Picture of John and Dr. Hsu included!

Enjoy

Why's Hsu going high tech with the projection screen? Isn't a white sheet hanging from the wall more geto-tech?

Ahhh but I bet you didn't you notice that the side lamp in the background still has the cable on it?

Its all getting far too hi-tech, back in the good old days that cable would have been put to good use in that demo room!!

Can anyone clarify if the HO models heard at CES had the new drivers and the new amp? It was previously reported that the units at CES did NOT have the new driver and amp. Also, they certainly did not have the turbocharger.

Thanks

Dear Artie,

The prototype units displayed at 2005 CES did not have the new amps or new drivers, and of course did not have the turbocharger either.

Hope this helps

Sincerely,

In case you missed it, here is another picture of the VTF-2HO prototype, per Hometheaterhifi.com's 2005 CES report:

So the prototypes without the new amps or drivers heard at CES were good enough to impress a number of listeners who wrote articles about them. Seems to indicate that the full fledged HO's will REALLY be something to write about. I hope Dr. Hsu will come to agreement with a professional reviewer to conduct a formal test and get the numbers out on the new models. As it stands, no one has tested the VTF-3 MkII. Some formal testing is overdue.

Absolutely, Artie! I would say that a VTF-3HO without turbo would perform at an extremely high level, since it has a single huge heavily flared 4" port in 18Hz tune, and dual 4" ports in highest tune. The turbocharger just takes this performance to another level, effectively doubling the port flow area in 18Hz tune. Note that a single heavily flared 4" port has approximately the same port flow capability as two heavily flared 3" ports, so dual 4" ports would have approximately the same port flow capability as four 3" ports. On top of this, with most of our competitor's products, one will need to plug either one port (on single driver models) or two ports (on dual driver models) in order to most closely approximate the 18Hz tune of the VTF-3HO. Keeping all of this in mind, it is easy to see why the VTF-3HO will be so potent.

I'm glad that you are excited, we are all very excited too!

Sincerely,
