No sound from sub - any suggestions????

It's Saturday which is music night and my sub is dead! The model is a HSU ULS-15.
It's connected to the low freq output of my Bryston crossover so the main speakers are not handling the low bass.

If I connect the sub to the outputs of a cd player and turn the sub up quite far I can hear low volume noise - rhythmic clicking.
Also if I touch the end of an RCA cable I get low volume clicking. No noticeable speaker excursion though.

I've tried several cables with the same results.

Any opinions? Thanks . Rob
