Possible Atmos Setup...Help me choose subs!
Hello everybody,
I think I am done researching for the time being and am going to build my home theater. We close on our house the end of next month. I'm going to build the room in our bonus room upstairs. This is what I'm going to do: (2) HB-1 MK2 (1) HC-1 MK2 (6) HIW-1 (2 in walls, 4 in ceiling) Seems crazy but from a cost perspective these (HIW-1) are so reasonably priced why not... Once a good option for a 4K projector comes out I'm going to do a custom screen and projector. For now I'm just going to do the audio. Is there any reason not to just get the VTF-15H MK2? I was also looking at the VTF3-MK5 but for $250 total why not just get the better subs? The room is 19x13x9 and we are going to have a sectional sofa and large ottoman for seating. I plan on putting up some acoustical treatments and sound deadening the walls and floor. The AVR is going to be a Marantz 7010 most likely or something like that once other options become available. The work will begin in roughly two months and I will keep this thread updated with links and pictures with what I decide to do. So, let me know your thoughts on using the HIW-1 in an Atmos setup and is there any reason not to get the VTF-15H MK2 as my subs of choice. Thanks. |

The MK2 is a great choice. You can start with one and then when you are ready for some serious balanced low end, you can step up to two.

That will make for a great system. I think the VTF3 mk5 will work well in that room also, but you can't go wrong with either sub. I think Hsu is nicely positioned to take advantage of Atmos and DTS:x type sound mixes, thanks to timbre matched in-walls. Hsu ought to suggest that more and sell an 'Atmos package', which would be the regular packages plus two or four in-walls, and stress that they can be used as in-ceilings as well.
